Three types of checkout logic

The right options. In the right order.

Start from a blank function or an example in the app. Configure the action and audience before saving it as a draft or making it active.

01

Order limits

Set a minimum, a maximum, or both. Stop checkout with a clear message when the cart does not meet the requirement.

  • Order subtotal, with amounts per currency
  • Total items per order
  • Specific products or SKUs
  • Products matching a tag

Limits run at checkout, not while customers build a cart on the storefront. For unlisted currencies, choose conversion from the store currency or no application of the limit.

02

Shipping methods

Hide, reorder, or rename an existing shipping rate for every shopper or for a defined audience.

  • Hide Express on orders that do not meet your requirements
  • Put local delivery first
  • Prioritise a rate for a customer segment
  • Add delivery-time wording to a rate name

Renaming a rate does not change its price or delivery promise. Configure the actual rate and fulfilment service separately in Shopify.

03

Payment methods

Control the supported payment options shown at checkout using hide, reorder, and rename actions.

  • Hide cash on delivery for guest checkouts
  • Restrict a manual method to a market
  • Change ordering for a relevant cart or audience
  • Clarify the name of a manual payment method

Functions customise existing methods; they do not activate providers or process payments. Shopify's payment-method and regional restrictions still apply.

From requirement to rule

Your business logic.
In your checkout.

01

Choose what changes

Set an order limit, or choose hide, rename, or reorder for a supported shipping or payment method.

02

Define who it applies to

Apply the function to everyone, a reusable customer segment, or shoppers matching display rules.

03

Test and manage priority

Use the available preview, test the checkout, and check rule order. If two reorder functions choose the same position, the higher one wins.

Check the result before publishing.

Keep a new function in draft while you configure its action and audience. Use the preview where available, then check the affected shipping, payment, or order requirements in checkout.

Review priority when rules overlap. If two reorder functions assign the same position, the higher-priority function takes precedence.

Part of the platform

The context behind the rule.

Keep audience definitions, conditions, and change records connected to the checkout logic they support.

Reuse a maintained audience. A segment-based function follows later changes to that segment.
Use the conditions available in the function editor for cart and customer context.
Use market-aware rules for requirements that vary by audience.
Review the recorded function changes and the actor behind them.
A little more detail

Your questions, answered.

How are Functions different from components?

Components display content, recommendations, or inputs. Functions change supported checkout behaviour, such as which shipping methods appear or whether an order meets a quantity limit.

Can I apply a function to a customer segment?

Yes. Choose Everyone, Shoppers in a segment, or Shoppers who match display rules. A function attached to a segment follows later changes to that segment.

What happens when reorder functions conflict?

Functions run top to bottom within each list. When two reorder functions choose the same position, the higher function wins. Review priority whenever you add overlapping rules.

How do order-value limits handle currencies?

Set amounts per currency. For a currency not listed, choose conversion from the store currency using Shopify's checkout exchange rate, or choose not to apply that limit.

Can I preview an order limit before saving?

Yes. The order-limit editor includes Try a cart, with cart quantity, subtotal, and shopper-currency inputs to inspect the result. Also test the intended checkout before activation.

Will an order limit change my storefront cart?

No. The app states that order limits are checked at checkout only. They do not change the storefront or theme while the customer builds the cart.

Make checkout work the way your business does.
