New Feature: Choose whether guests see components that use logged-in customer rules
Display rules that rely on customer-account data (orders count, tag, predicted spend tier, RFM group, customer metafield) now let you decide what happens for guest checkouts: show the component to guests, or keep it hidden until the customer logs in.
What's new. Customer-account rules can only be checked once a customer is logged in, because a guest's order history, tags and metafields are unknown. A guest is now treated as a customer with a blank profile: no tags, no orders, no spend tier, no RFM group, no metafields. That means rules that exclude a customer group, "Customer tag does not contain", "Customer tag is not equal to", and "Customer orders count is less than", show the component to guests by default, because a guest isn't in the excluded group. Rules that target a customer group ("tag contains", "orders count is greater than", and all spend tier, RFM group and metafield rules) never show to guests, because a guest can't be confirmed as part of the group.
You stay in control. When you add or edit an exclusion rule, the rule builder confirms the default with you: guest (logged out) customers will see this component, is that OK? Keep Yes (the default), or choose No to hide the component from guests as well. Each rule's guest visibility is shown on the rule overview and on the rule group cards on your component.
How it works with your other rules. The behaviour applies to the individual rule, not the whole component, so your other conditions still apply. For example, with "Cart value is less than $70" and "Customer tag does not contain Platinum Member", a guest with a $50 cart sees the component, a guest with a $200 cart does not, and a logged-in Platinum Member never does.
Existing setups. In July 2026 we made components using these rules hide for all guest checkouts, which stopped many components from showing where merchants expected them. Components using exclusion rules now show to guests again, exactly as they did before July, so no action is needed. If you rely on hiding a component from guests, for example a first-order gift that returning customers shouldn't see when checking out logged out, edit the rule and choose No. Rule group cards flag exclusion rules that haven't been confirmed yet.
