Enhancement: Faster, component-specific checkout extensions
Checkout Components is moving to Shopify's new checkout extension platform. In your checkout editor you'll now find a set of component-specific extensions (Checkout Upsells, Dynamic Content, Input Fields and Line Item highlights) built to make your checkout load faster.
Why this is happening. Shopify has rebuilt its checkout extension platform around lighter technology (web components) and a strict size budget for every extension script, because every script your checkout loads runs in your customer's browser at the exact moment they're deciding whether to buy. Apps that have moved to the new platform have seen dramatically smaller checkout scripts and noticeably faster load times. What's changing. The single Checkout Components extension you've been placing in the checkout editor is being deprecated. It now appears as Checkout Components (Deprecated) and keeps working, but from 1st October 2026 it will only receive bug fixes. All new features ship on the new component-specific extensions. Three component types (Line item edit upsell, Radio upsell and Countdown timer) will stop rendering on the deprecated extension entirely after that date do to extension bundle size limits enforced by Shopify (we had to lighten up the extension size - so we picked the least used component variants). Don't worry though, these features will be available on the new component-specific extensions.
What you need to do. At your convenience before 1st October 2026, open the checkout editor, add the new extension that matches your component's type where the old block sits, enter the component's name in its settings, and remove the old block. The app guides you along the way: affected components show a notice naming exactly which new extension to use, and warnings clear automatically once we detect a component running on its new extension.
Existing setups. Nothing changes at your checkout today. Every published component keeps rendering exactly as it does now, and nothing breaks before 1st October 2026.
