How does age verification work in Shopify checkout?

Customers provide their identity details, a supported Australian document, and consent. GBG greenID checks those details in the verification flow. A checkout that requires verification stays blocked until the 18+ check succeeds.

Which identity documents are supported?

This integration supports an Australian passport, a driver's licence from any Australian state or territory, or a green or gold Medicare card. It does not support documents issued outside Australia.

What happens if a customer's details cannot be verified?

The order remains blocked and the customer can review their details and retry. A failed check does not let the customer bypass a required verification.

Can I require verification only for selected products?

Yes. Target the restricted products with product or collection conditions, such as a tag identifying items that require an age check. Review the eligible products during onboarding.

What minimum age does the integration check?

The integration checks that the customer is 18 or over. Confirm that this threshold and the verification workflow suit the products you sell before arranging setup.

Can I activate age verification myself?

No. It is available on request and requires store-by-store onboarding with your own GBG greenID account. Contact us to discuss the document coverage, consent flow, and integration setup.

Do I need Shopify Plus and Enterprise for age verification?

Yes. This Checkout Components integration requires Shopify Plus and the Enterprise plan, with assisted setup. It is not included as a self-serve Starter, Growth, or Pro component.

Can customers use New Zealand or other overseas documents?

No. This integration currently supports Australian-issued documents only. Do not treat the broader capabilities of GBG greenID as document coverage included in this Checkout Components integration.
